How to Overcome Resistance and Fear:
You want to write that book, you want to be more consistent with your writing, and you want to write more articles, but it never happens. There is some internal resistance. You somehow can not make it happen. This is resistance.
Resistance overlaps with fear. fear of social disapproval, fear of failure, and even fear of success.
Now, fear stems from our amygdala, the ‘ancient brain’. Why do we fear social disapproval so much? For our caveman ancestors, social disapproval and being cast out from the group meant certain death out in the wild.
Today, being judged and cast out of the group does not mean death, but our evolving brain hasn’t caught up yet. So we continue to fear what people might think.
The truth is, no one cares. Everyone has other stuff to think about. If anything, attention spans are shortening, so even if they do think about you, it will be for a few minutes and then it’s gone.
So, does it make sense to sabotage your true self based on what someone else might think for a few fleeting moments?
If your problem is fear of failure. The only way out is through.
Hit it head-on. Fail faster.
FAIL FASTER because NO ONE CARES.
This Week’s Writing Tidbits:
This week I want to talk about self-doubt which is under the umbrella of fear. You know what, self-doubt isn’t so bad after all. Self-doubt is your friend because it serves as an indicator of ambition.
All good writers have self-doubt. If you are asking yourself ‘Am I really a writer?’, there is a solid chance that you actually are. Like a good parent is constantly doubting their parenting capabilities. So, good writers are constantly doubting themselves.
It is those who are wildly self-confident that may have something to think about.
What I’m Reading:
The War of Art Focus by Steven Pressfield
An absolute pleasure to read. It is short chapters, some not even a page long, beautifully written, and overflowing with wisdom.
It will help you get through a bumpy patch in your writing routine and make you feel ‘seen’ and ‘heard’. Creating is a daily battle, and this book will get you through.
Favorite Quote This Week:
